Road

Designed to go as fast as possible on the road. Frame designs are typically based on the diamond frame. The tubing from which frames are constructed varies greatly in cross section from round and narrow to oval or triangular with aerodynamic butting and twists to improve aerodynamics, frame rigidity, handling and performance.

Frame geometry and handlebar shaping make for a low and aerodynamic riding position. Drop bars give a choice of hand positions; Low on the drops for descents, high on the bars for ascent and stretched out over the centre for speed on the flat, as in time trialling. A more upright riding position is achieved with riser bars.

Gears
1 fixed gear to 30 derailleur gears

Brakes / Levers
Calliper road brake

Typical Accessories
Lights, Rack, Computer

Strengths
• Lightweight

Weaknesses
• Thin wheels can buckle easily
• Frames are often highly branded making them a 'target'
