Brompton

The best way to prevent a bike from being stolen from the street is not to leave it there in the first place. This is the anti-theft functionality offered by the Brompton bicycle.

A well-known and popular commuter bike, the Brompton folds down into a compact and easy to transport size. Its unique ‘tailfold’ design allows both wheels to be located alongside the chainset when folded making it amongst the most compact folders on the market.

The bike is something of a British design ‘classic’ with over 20 years of heritage. The London based company offer a wide range of options to suit different types of riders. These options include single speed and hub-geared options, both of which reduce the number of components prone to theft. Other accessories such as lights, mudguards and bike racks have been specifically designed for the Brompton and are not compatible with other bike designs. This may decrease the resale opportunities for potential thieves of these accessories.

Strengths
• One of the most compact and robust foldable bikes on the market
• Quick and relatively easy to fold (10 – 20 sec)
• Full wheelbase with a comfortable and efficient riding position
• Allows both wheels to be locked securely with one lock on street

Weaknesses
• Highly desirable and therefore a target to thieves
